CJI recommends Justice Bobde next-in-line.

Chief Justice of India is the Highest Position a person can hold in Indian Judiciary. The position comes with enormous responsibility to hold the strings together preventing travesty of justice. Whenever the Chief Justice of India retires, he has to recommend one of the senior most and capable Justices to carry the baton forward. Justice Ranjan Gogoi is the current Chief Justice of India and he is set to retire on 17th November after contributing hugely to the efficaciousness of Indian Judiciary. Justice Bodbe enrolled himself as an advocate in the year 1978 with the bar Counsel of Maharashtra. In his initial days of his career, he practiced at the Nagpur bench of the Mumbai High Court before he got elevated as Senior Advocate in 1998. Subsequently, he was elevated as the Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court in the month of March, 2000. After an inspired career as a judge for thirteen years, he was elevated as the Supreme Court Judge in April, 2013.

He is involved in several landmark cases including the Ayodha Case. Apart from this he is also holding the Honorable post of Chancellor of Maharashtra National Law University.
